Introductions,

Good evening everyone! How’s the weekend?

I wanted to thank everyone for the warm reception from my first post and also extend my apologies since it’s been almost a week since I followed up but I wanted to make sure to get plenty of rest after having the vaccine. So without further ado – let’s start with some introductions!

…probably should’ve posted this BEFORE my guide but yeahhhh.

Personally, I go by Bonne or Sugarbat but there’s no preference! If you’ve not come here through Twitter or Instagram then lemme just explain a little bit about my fated backstory; I’ve always wanted to write since I was a kid but sorely stopped after hitting my early twenties because of the dreaded A-word: Adulting.

Now that I’m in a better place mentally and physically while pushing the big 3-0, figured now was a good time as any to start pursuing my most beloved hobby. This isn’t really a rags-to-riches dream where I’ve any hope to become a full-time content creator – it took all of my courage just to make my presence known online. In truth, I just want a little safe space with all you lovely people and join my voice with other blerdy creators in hopes that we can bring more notice to the black community when it comes to nerdy content. Just so happens that my favorite kind is otome!

With that being said, nice to meet you and please excuse me for any future clumsiness as I’ll probably be spending the next few months finding my natural groove with working a blog. There are a few ideas for unique content I’ve already buzzin’ around my noggin’ but until those ideas are more concrete, I’d rather default to something that comes easy to me; fangirling about my favorite otome/romance themed games! When I find something I enjoy playing – I hit it pretty hard until I’ve exhausted every bit of content so I’d like to share my thoughts with you on that.

To avoid talking myself into tangents that go in six different directions (as I’m wont to do when gushing about something I’m excited about, oof) – I’ll be following a little guided checklist I’ve made for myself that’ll help organize my thoughts for the game. So here’s how my Otome Breakdowns are gonna go~

chill factor ~ is this a game that you can unwind with, maybe put it down & come back to it later or is this off-the-walls banana split crazy that will gaurantee heartbreak and/or heart attacks?
graphics ~ is the art clean, does everything look fresh & ready to woo me into oblivion or some inconsistency?
soundtrack ~ does it flow with the game, beautiful as stand alone or impose on the voice acting at all?
characters ~ are they bae material or some stale, overused trope with as much depth as a kiddie pool? I need my husbandos to be thicker than oatmeal, folks.
storytelling ~ am I crying, rolling my eyes at the audacity, or spamming buttons to speed read because it’s that freaking hype?
voice acting ~ honestly I’ll be very surprised if I find an otome game yet that’s not delivering on the acting but hey, be more than happy to let you know who makes me clutch my pearls the most.
interface, controls & menu layout ~ this feels super snobby to admit but ya girl likes a clean, pretty & easily accessible game while being able to manipulate scenes/have a clear direction of what I can do while playing.
spending/value ~ this will pertain more to cellphone games, revealing how much you may as a whole be spending on routes/storylines for those who aren’t trying to spend too much coin.
bromance ~ aka bro-con. do the love interests have any meaningful relationships amongst each other or is this going to play like a bad episode of the Bachelor? I feel like this is important in helping you ease into the story.

More importantly I’m wanting to discuss about the games themselves in terms of how they handle certain topics and character tropes that we’ve long since been introduced to. As someone older, I look back and notice there’s a few characters or game content that I used to just flip my @$&! over but now have different feelings about it.

And honestly I just love fangirling with fellow fans about these games and wanna throw myself in the excitement by supporting others to talk about their own experiences like this too. With COVID and isolation still taking a toll on all of us, I feel that finding even ground to bond with each other is really important in these gloomy times.

With that said, I hope you guys take good care of me and I cannot wait to write more for you.

stay beautiful! ❧
